Gay men are known for really enjoying woolen socks. Straight men, not so much. In Book 3, Dumbledore lends Hermione a time turner. It is a known fact that only gay men enjoy traveling through time. In the Harry Potter books, Prof. Dumbledore doesn't fail to mention his love for socks, but he does fail to mention the reason for his fascination with them.
