Offensive contemporary term for LGBTQ+ people, often used by right-wing people reacting to perceived advancements in LGBTQ+ people's rights. Gay slang expression for people who frequent public toilets looking for sexual encounters. Instead of calling someone a "gay man," you can say "a homosexual" or simply, "a homo" and he's suddenly less of a person and just a sexuality.
But also, "homo" as an insult sounds pretty. Using gay as an insult would imply, that being gay is wrong or bad. I sometimes say things like " nah, that shit is gay " as a joke, because everybody knows I'm gay, so that's ironic. In a homophobic conversation, a person might use the term fruit to insult someone’s masculinity, saying, “He’s such a fruit, he can’t be a real man.” It’s important to note that using this term is offensive and disrespectful, and it perpetuates harmful stereotypes about gay men.
Recently, we asked LGBTQ members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us the ridiculous and offensive things straight people have said to them.
